PROVIDENCE has been small-group oriented. Some changes occurred the first quarter of 2011. The church has experienced some self-diagnosis and we new format is being implemented. Previously, we had 27 standing committees and two special situation committees. As approved by the church in December, 2010, we have re-structured our organization and formally included "teams" in our church governance.
For a number of years, we have organized several teams to address special needs and opportunities that have presented themselves in the church setting. During the first quarter of 2011, all official committees and special needs "teams" are evaluating their mission with the goal of identifying the groups that should be COMMITTEES and groups that should be TEAMS.
Because this is a current project, the information below regarding committee became effective April 1, 2011.
The Nominating Committee of the church is charged with the responsibility for enlisting and recommending individuals to serve on the various committees. Committees are structured with rotating three-year terms, therefore, the number of persons serving on a committee is a multiple of three. The Nominating Committee is also responsible for maintaining the roster for the TEAMS of the church. However, teams are at liberty to enlist members without selecting members without the services of the Nominating Committee
The COORDINATING COUNCIL, consists of committee chair-persons plus the WMU Co-directors, the Sunday School Director, the Moderator as Chair of the Coordinating Council, the Chair of the Deacons, the Pastor, Associate Pastor, and Church Business Administrator, and the secretary selected by the Moderator.
The current requirement to serve on a committee is that a person must be a member of the church for at least one year prior to active membership on the committee.
