QUESTIONS/ANSWERS
Called Church Conference on May 23

1.  Why do we need to move the Chapel, and what section(s) will be moved?

The Chapel building was the first building constructed by the congregation known as Providence Baptist Church.  It is part of our legacy.  As the Facilities Planning Task Force (FPT) considered many alternatives for a new building, the location of the Chapel buildings created an obstacle for the placement of a proposed new facility.  After much discussion and many meetings, the idea of relocating the Sanctuary portion of the Chapel building was given serious consideration.  The FPT considered several possible scenarios and decided to recommend to the church that the Chapel Sanctuary be relocated.  Then the ides of a “Missions Center” adjoining the relocated Chapel Sanctuary was considered.  Throughout the many months of discussions regarding facilities building/renovations, the PFT had a desire to include a mission component as part of the program.  Now that is possible.

2.  What will happen to the rooms currently attached to the current Chapel Sanctuary and what will happen to the “hut?”

The individual rooms that are now a part of the Chapel complex will be demolished, as well as the “hut.”  Only the Sanctuary portion of the Chapel will be relocated.

3.  Where will the Chapel Sanctuary be relocated, and how much will it cost to move it?

The plan is to relocate the Chapel (Sanctuary) only.  It will be moved to the property between the softball field and the resident lot. This is the area behind/east of the current location of the Chapel buildings.   At this time, we have an estimate for the moving of the Chapel for approximately $150,000.  This does not include the utilities disconnect & connect, the demolition of the adjoining rooms/hut, nor the cost to prepare the new site on which to place to the Chapel.

4.  What will be in the Missions Center? And how much will it cost?  How will it be built? How long will it take to build it? And what will it look like?

The Missions Center will contains rooms for the various mission activities of the church including Room in the Inn, Family Promise, the WMU, and other mission causes including storage for missions projects and other activities.  In addition, it will contain a multi-purpose meeting room, a kitchen, laundry facilities, restrooms with showers, and a bride’s room.  The front of the Missions Center is scheduled to be bricked.  At this time, the FINAL ROOM CONFIGURATION HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED.  Regarding cost; we have been pledged a gift of $375,000 to $400,000 for the Missions Center, therefore, that is the amount we can spend.  In order to build a facility of this size, we must use contractual services for the required electric, plumbing, etc.; AND volunteer help from the church members/friends is required for the majority of the remaining work.  Harold Eddins and Chris Squier have agreed to be the Volunteer Coordinators for the project that will be similar to a Habitat for Humanity house building project.  The building of the Missions Center may take longer than usual because of the use of volunteer labor, therefore a specific time line is difficult to predict.

Parking near the Chapel will be provided once the construction of a new building is completed.  Current plans indicate a driveway from the parking lot to the rear of the building.  The Chapel portion will be bricked as it is now.  The interior of the Chapel will remain as it is now with the addition of windows on what is now a windowless side.  The front of the Chapel may be enhanced with columns to match the entrance to our rotunda building.

5.  What will happen to the groups that are now meeting in the Chapel?

We will accommodate these groups in our other buildings as much as possible.  However, it may not be possible to accommodate every group for all of their meetings.  Although the relocated Chapel Sanctuary may be accessible, it is not practical to use it because the project is considered as a whole and a Certificate of Occupany must be issued before we can use any portion of the building.

6.  What about the HVAC/Infrastructure problems and the renovation of the Fellowship Hall

and Kitchen as originally proposed?

The specifics of these projects are currently being considered by the Facilities Planning Task Force and a recommendation to the church will be forthcoming in the near future - hopefully the Fall of2007.  These projects will be addressed concurrently with the relocation of the Chapel Sanctuary and the building of the Missions Center.

7.  Will the relocation of the Chapel and the building of the Missions Center delay the other  projects in the building program including a new building?

It is not anticipated that the relocation of the Chapel Sanctuary will delay the building of a new building.  However, the Chapel/Missions Center building will be the first project to be addressed.  According to the plans currently being considered by the Facilities Planning Team, a new building cannot be constructed until the Chapel Sanctuary is moved and the adjoining rooms and the hut are demolished.  Plans for a new building plus the renovation of the Fellowship Hall and Kitchen, and the HVAC work are currently being finalized by the Facilities Planning Task Force.  A recommendation regarding this phase of the building program will be presented to the church.  The date anticipated that the recommendation will be made to the church is the fall of this year.
