The Health Ministry at Providence Baptist Church is designed to build on and strengthen capacities of individuals, families and congregations to understand and care for one another in light of their relations to God, faith traditions, themselves and the broader society.
The Parish Nurse, in collaboration with pastoral staff and congregational members participates in the ongoing transformation of the faith community into a source of health and healing. Through partnership with other community health resources, parish nursing fosters new and creative responses to health concerns.
The Parish Nurse recognizes body , mind and spirit in this ministry of wholeness.
Whole health is promoted by: 1) Education regarding current and accurate information on health and disease based on assessed health needs of church members. 2) Screening for potential problems (ie Blood Pressure) 3) Counseling regarding health processes the member and family are experiencing and identification of health care needs that might otherwise go undetected. 4) Acting as a referral Agent to appropriate community resources or organizations. 5) Advocating and Nurturing self responsibility and advocating within the healthcare system to meet the individual member needs. 6) Motivating members in participating in the caring community of the church as it relates to whole person health.
