If that were not enough, the village of Oberammergau made a grateful pact with God over 370 years ago.  After being spared the ravages of The Black Death, a plague that had decimated the rest of Europe, the thankful villagers pledged themselves as witness of Jesus: for the entire village to sponsor a live reenactment of the Passion of Christ for all the world to see.  So every 10 years, Oberammergau has remained faithful to their vow.
