One of the mission projects for May has been the College Mission Trip to New York City, New York.  Twenty-three individuals made the trip to work through and the with the Metro Baptist Church in the "Hell's Kitchen" area of the city.  The group will return on Saturday, May 28.

MISSIONS FINANCIAL SUPPORT

2011 Missions Extended

The above pie chart depicts the percentages of mission disbursements through the Extended Missions Section of our 2011 Ministry Budget.  The Extended Missions Section is 6.4% of our total 2011 Ministry Budget.

2011 Missions

This pie chart depicts the percentages of missions disbursements through the "Other" Section of our 2011 Ministry Budget.
The "Other" Missions Section is 4.2% of our total 2011 Ministry Budget.

Combined together, the "Extended" and "Other" missions account for 10.6% of our ministry budget.  This does not account for the donations that participants make in order for them to be involved in the various missions trips throughout the year.  Everyone participating in a mission trip must contribute to the cost of that endeavor.  In addition to the above mission disbursements, other mission expenditures are an integral part of the Educational section and other sections of the 2011 Ministry Budget.

Missions - General

SUMMER is an intensive time of missions trips by various groups in our church.  Information on these trips is listed below:

The 2011 COLLEGE MISSION TRIP, May 21-28, was to New York City. The twenty-three individuals worked with the Metro Baptist Church, located in the "Hell's Kitchen" section of Manhatten.  For more information email BETH MCCONNELL.

The 8th annual "Book Buddies" trip to eastern Kentucky will  occur June 20-24,  working with the elementary school in Owlsey County in a summer learning program and delivering over 2,000 books to the children of the county.  This has become a recurring event that is anticipated by the elementary school students in the area.  This project was a desire of a Providence member - Cindy Brewer, after her first trip to the area.

For more information, you may contact Rev. Beth McConnell at 704-366-4030 x124 or email:  BETH MCCONNELL.

The 2011 High School Mission Trip will be to Kingston, Jamaica, July 9 - 16. For more information, email ANDY SMITH.

The 2011 Middle School Mission Trip will be to Washington, DC., June 12 - 18.  For more information on this trip and future mission endeavors, email ANDY SMITH.

The 2011 Family Kentucky Trip will be July 17 - 23.  The purpose was to repair a number of houses for the residents of Owsley and Powell counties.   This will be the eight year that this annual trip has been organized and successful completed.

Chapel/Missions Center

Pictured above is the recently-completed Chapel/Missions Center building.  It is the combination of our relocated and refurbished Chapel.  This building was the first Worship Center/Sanctuary originally built by the new congregation in 1954.  Adjoining the Chapel is a Missions Center which provides a place to conduct missions activities.  And it is a place from which missions activities are imagined and implemented.

MISSIONS INVOLVEMENT AT PROVIDENCE:
From its beginning as a church, Providence has been extensively involved in missions.  Through the years, this involvement has been expanded to include a range of activities from Monthly Collection Projects to Mission Trips to other continents.

RECENTLY, our international missions involvement has occurred here in Charlotte, and in our facility.  A number of Burmese families have been worshiping with us and several individuals and families have joined our church.  For the Sunday worship services, a translator is provided for the 11:00 am worship.  With a generous gift from a church member, the translator has a wireless transmitter and he translates the sermon from English to the Burmese language and "broadcast" it to the numerous wireless receivers held by the individuals.  Sixteen different individuals can use the receivers during the service.  In addition, we have ESL class for the Burmese community regardless of their church choices.  These classes are held on Wednesday evening and the individuals attending the class are our guest for the Wednesday evening dinner..

THE 2010 SUMMER MISSION TRIPS have occurred!  Adults, families, College students, and Youth of the church are currently making plans for the summer 2011 Mission Trips.  The destinations have yet been decided.   Now is the time to become a part of next year's mission trips.

Listed below is a sampling of the missions activities throughout the year.  Providence supports additional mission endeavors in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area with financial aid and personal involvement.

Missions projects in other counties, states, and countries occur at various times through the year depending on the requests for assistance and the availability of volunteers.  You are invited to visit the other mission pages as listed in the "tab" under the "MISSIONS" navigational buttons.  Of if you wish you may CLICK HERE for Local Missions; CLICK HERE for National Missions; CLICK HERE for  International Missions.
