National Missions

Providence Baptist Church has been active in NATIONAL MISSIONS from the beginning of its existence.  Some recent examples are:

Most of our Youth and Adult Summer Missions Trips have been to other parts of our country to assist individuals in need.  In every case, our leaders and volunteers coordinated their efforts through local contacts.  Some of the places our youth have traveled are: Oklahoma, Tennessee, South Dakota, Texas, and Florida.  Several of our youth trips were closer to home ministering in North and South Carolina.  Most of our adult mission endeavors have been in the eastern part of the USA.

Through our special missions offerings, funds have been directed to all areas of the USA through the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Global Missions and SBC Home Missions.

And, since 2004, Providence has been involved in a special missions project in Eastern Kentucky.  One of the counties in that state is the 4th poorest county in the USA.  You can learn more about our missions endeavors in the Rural Poverty Initiative in another portion of our web-site.  Please go to the RURAL POVERTY INITIATIVE tab associated with the National Missions section.

Several  years ago, many of our members traveled to Eastern North Carolina on several occasions to assist with the DISASTER RELIEF efforts following Hurricane Floyd.  Our projects were coordinated by North Carolina Baptist Men.

On two separate occasions, we have sent DISASTER RELIEF Teams to the Gulf Coast following the devastation of hurricanes, especially following Hurricane Katrina.  In addition, through association with a local church in the area, our members sent thousands of dollars that were used to purchase food to provide meals to the local residents AND to those who had moved from more critical areas to the location of this local church.

The missions endeavors listed on this page are just a few of the National Missions in which members of Providence Baptist Church have been involved.

MISSIONARIES in the USA from Providence

There are a number of individuals serving through various ministries located in the continental USA.  At this time, we are assimilating that information to be published on this page of our web-site as soon as possible.  Two individuals are:

Thomas II (320 x 215)

BETSY DELADDY THOMAS

Betsy and Joe Thomas are on the staff with Campus Crusade for Christ at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.  (More information forth coming - Joe and Betsy's second child was born on September 24, so they are a little busy at this time.)

Erin Joshua Smith (490 x 600)

ERIN COLTRANE SMITH:

Hello from Chapel Hill, NC! We are Josh and Erin Smith and we are on staff with Campus Crusade for Christ at UNC-Chapel Hill.   We believe that the 4 years spent in college are some of the most formative in a person's life.   We have seen the beauty of the gospel transform our own lives during college, and have seen it change the lives of countless students during our time on staff, as well. Our vision at UNC is "Encounter and Respond." In a culture that has a lot of different ideas of who God is, we want to be a ministry that exposes students to who the God of the Bible is and how they can know Him.  Thank you for your love, support and prayers!

OFFERING FOR GLOBAL MISSIONS

"Who's Missions? Whose Missions?"

For decades, Baptist churches have collected funds for world-wide missions during the month of December.  Providence has collected this offering every December since its beginning in 1954.  The practice of giving is fully appreciated by giving so others may hear the "Good News" that Jesus is born.  Good news may also be a new water pump for a village, medical treatment in a remote area, or hearing the story of Jesus' birth, life, and purpose in a new church building.  All of the funds collected for global missions go directly to international missions where the ministries are occurring.   You are invited to be a part of this offering with us.
