For the month of February, we are collecting the following:

  Canned Fruit, 100% Juice, Pork & Beans
Peanut Butter, Canned Meat, Soup

FOR

Loaves and Fishes is a nonprofit emergency food pantry program which provides
a week's worth of groceries to people in crisis in Charlotte/Mecklenburg.

CHARLOTTE-MECKLENBURG POLICE DEPARTMENT EXPLORER'S CHRISTMAS PROJECT has been a yearly Christmas event for thirty-six years.  For the past thirty yeas, Providence Baptist Church has provided HAMS for the food baskets.  This project of the CMPD involves many organizations in the Charlotte area.  The purpose of the project is to provide food and gifts for families with children who might not otherwise have food and/or gifts during the Christmas season.  Because these children are on the free lunch program in CMS, during the  two weeks holiday, they are likely not experiencing regular meals every day.  This project provides food for the family for the holidays and gifts for the children.  Providence is honored to be a part of this project.

We are pleased to announced that we reached our goal of SIX HUNDRED (600) HAMS for this year's project.  CMPD announced weeks ago that for 2009, 600 homes/families would receive gifts and food.  Members and friends of Providence responded to the challenge, and on Monday, December 21, 600 baskets of food were delivered containing items donated by other charities/churches/businesses in the Charlotte area including the 600 hams supplied by Providence Baptist Church.
