Al Cadenhead, Jr.
Pastor Emeritus
Al Cadenhead began shepherding the Providence Congregation in 1998 as Senior Pastor. He retired from “active” ministry after 17 years with Providence and 45 years in God’s pulpit. He’s written, spoken and prayed the Word of God for most of his life. Al is a softball slugger, a medical chaplain, a minister, THE pizza guy, a counselor, a writer and a runner. He also grills a mean burger and can shag with the best of them.
Al has authored five books and over a thousand published articles for newspapers during the past 30 years. He is accredited as a Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, and is board certified through the American Psychotherapy Association.
Al retired in 2015 and now serves as Providence’s first Pastor Emeritus. Daily, he continues to shepherd the Providence family through the ups and downs of life. He is also the Vice President for Community Relations for Gardner-Webb University.
Al and wife Suzanne have two adult children and five grandchildren, who are the joy of their lives. His swimming pool parties are legendary and he and Suzanne continue to be a beloved part of the Providence family.
