From its founding in 1954, Providence Baptist Church has put Christ at the Center in the Cotswold community.

  • May 23, 1954Providence Baptist Church was Founded

    Founded in 1954, Providence Baptist Church began with 165 charter members. Providence was founded and remains a congregation of faith that holds a strong belief in local church autonomy and the priesthood of all believers.

    Providence Baptist Church began on four-acres of land on Providence Road before finding it's home on Randolph Road.

  • 1963The First Service of Ordination

    Theophilus Patnaik became the first person to be ordained to the Gospel Ministry at Providence Baptist Church. Providence has ordained 31 ministers since 1963.

  • 1973Pledge of Commitment

    Providence’s Pledge of Commitment was adopted in August 1973. It exemplifies the qualities of a Providence Baptist Church member.

  • 1976The Diaconate Elects First Female Deacon

    Providence first elected women to serve on the Deacon Body.

  • 1981The Ordination of Patricia McBrayer

    Patricia McBrayer became the first woman to be ordained to the Gospel Ministry at Providence Baptist Church.

  • 2011Providence Gardens

    Since 2011, Providence has built and maintained a community garden that is part of the Friendship Garden network. The crops from the Providence Gardens are donated to our Missions Partners, The BULB.

    "Providence Will: A Strategic Plan for Providence 2025" was adopted by the Deacons. This Strategic Plan is organized around five priorities: Cultivate Generosity, Make Disciples, Engage Cotswold, Bless Charlotte, and Send Apostles.
 

Providence practices Sending Apostles through the following church plants:

  • Carmel Baptist
  • The Korean Baptist Church
  • Sharon Baptist

We have also hosted faith communities and refugees in need of a worship space: Korean, Ukrainian, Congolese and Burmese congregations.
